Look Forward, Never Back
It’s funny, I’ve always been a writer. Even as a little kid, I’d write for hours on our old Gateway computer. My mom would call me for dinner and I’d still be writing away and working on my so-called ‘novel’. When kids are asked what they want to be when they grow up, most answer an astronaut, a pro-basketball player or a ballerina. My response? An author. In some way or another, I feel as if I am. This little blog is a piece of me that I’ll always find comfort in – even if it has been over a month since I’ve inked my words on a page on the Internet. Being able to string sentences into paragraphs and somehow or someway touch someone’s live. That’s my happiness. That’s my outlet. That’s me.
This summer has been busy. Hell, these past few months have been a whirlwind. I'm guilty for slacking on this little blog of mine, but will be sure to start giving you all more updates and posts. These past few months have sparked a huge move to a big city (hi, Charlotte), 2 new jobs, 2 new apartments, a lost relationship, and all those adult things in between. You can say things have been moving pretty quickly. I’ve been moving pretty quickly. I must admit, change has never been something I’ve been a fan of or even liked to acknowledge. Maybe it’s the fact that I love my comfort zone or maybe it’s that I just never want to stop feeling how I am in this moment, but it’s not my strong suit. It’s interesting though, lately change has felt like a relief. I am actually liking it. Does that make me more of an adult? I don't know, but it's exhilarating.
Although I lost a serious relationship, It taught me so much – it made me who I am today. It didn’t work out, like many things in life, but it gave me a new perspective on what I want or rather who I want. Breakups are tough. It’s losing a best friend, a confidant, a part of you, but sometimes those things come to an end and that's fine too. Those memories, those pieces of you – they’re the ones that helped you grow. Keep on looking forward, but never back.
The day that you stop looking back, you’ll find that the future sure beats the hell out of the past.”
