Staying True To You

October 5, 2015 Kimberly Kufel

{ What can I say? I love to laugh. Loudly. }

In a world that pushes you to change, to conform, to adjust to the likes of others, it can be difficult to stay true to your self.

One of the biggest accomplishments in life is embracing your true colors.

When I first started in marketing, I worried about my approach to just about everything.

Is this skirt business professional? Will the tone of my email sound like I’m trying too hard? Is this the appropriate response to a colleague?

It was a little difficult to separate my work-self with my off-work self. Side note: why didn’t college teach us these things? I digress.

I used to find myself changing the tone of my emails to a more “professional” manner, my outfit choices to a little more business-esque, my overall demeanor to a less loud version of myself (I have an extremely loud laugh and just about everything else).

I know, I know it sounds a little silly, but I’ve realized that these teeny tiny pieces of your personality have the ability to really set you apart.

Who wants to wear solid black dress pants everyday anyway? Guys, let’s shake things up a bit.

The standard ‘will do’ email can just as easily be turned into ‘Cool dealio! Can’t wait to see the results of the email campaign.”

That dull white button down can just as easily be accessorized with pointed-toe cheetah pumps.

That loud laugh might just be something that brightens up someone’s day.

Newsflash: You can still be professional in your own skin.

Keeping your identity in a society that feeds off conformity is something you should always be proud of – no matter what.

Life is too short to fit in, especially when standing out is a heck of a lot more fun.

Go ahead and do your thing; stand out, rock bright red lipstick, laugh so hard your cheeks hurt, send silly work emails and always embrace yourself.

After all, no one else is quite like you.
